XBOX Live Headset troubleshooting?

I recently got an Xbox 360 Pro yesterday, and I'll try to get my headset connected (The headset comes with the Xbox 360 Pro), but am not sure if it works. This is a two-headed monkey jack, but the port has 3 openings. I put the monkey pin connector into the port, and I heard a pop in the headset, but am not sure if opperational. In none of the installation guides, the headphone jack is more with the volume when it was established head mute and volume on the card itself, and the squelch control on the cable. Can anyone help me figure this? The question is not "how can I implement "is" simply the work of components for the Xbox Live headset, but if the headphone jack is different from any other connectors headphones I saw?
