A Young Female Faces Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Rehab For Her Irresponsible And Heavy Drinking, And Augments Her Self Worth
Emily was a thirty-six-year-old bookkeeper who was sick of feeling depressed everyday of her life and fed up with her abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior. Stated briefly, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a valueless habit, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship because of her irresponsible drinking, she missed her old drive for doing various things she enjoyed, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis.
As well as the observable alcohol-related health predicaments she now experienced, probably the most damaging part of her drinking routine was the untrustworthy and devious person she had become. In her heart she realized that she had been less than truthful about her drinking behavior to her relatives, friends, and family and she also knew she had been less than truthful with herself about the "beneficial" consequences of drinking. Not only this but she rationalized gulping four or five drinks before going to social events and she also justified needing two or three the very first thing in the morning so that she could cope with the "anxiety" at her place of employment. Simply put, Emily got to a special time in her life when she comprehended that she hit rock bottom and was now ready to commence the slow path that leads to health.
One of the primary ways that Emily put her "plan" into action was by asking for a transfer at her place of employment. When her request was approved by Human Resources and by top management, she moved 700 miles away to a new part of the United States. If nothing else, this beyond doubt made making new pals and detaching herself from her old friends and pals easier. Then she phoned a healthcare practitioner in her new residence and made an appointment for a thorough physical examination.
After meeting with the healthcare professional and going through several laboratory tests, it was determined that Emily had crossed the line from alcohol abuse to alcoholism and as a consequence, was in need of alcohol therapy and alcohol detoxification. At this stressful time, the healthcare practitioner made it a point to articulate the various alcoholic symptoms and the usual symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to spending a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, her doctor also told Emily that it was discovered that she was clinically depressed and in need of therapy for this medical issue.
Due to her eagerness to follow through with the treatment protocol, after nine weeks of residential rehab, Emily was ready to begin counseling on an outpatient basis. At this point, she began working at her new job and over a period of a few weeks began fortifying her body by drinking filtered water, taking vitamins, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free lifestyle, and working out.
After roughly thirteen weeks of outpatient therapy during which time she never went through a relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol therapy and instead began going three times per week to local AA meetings. Attending these meetings helped Emily follow through with her alcohol-free lifestyle, they gave her the support she needed, and they served as a continual reminder of the damaging consequences that are linked to excessive and unhealthy drinking. Compared with her life less than a year ago, life was now rewarding and loaded with promise that she could have never hoped for or accomplished while while she was engaged in abusive drinking behavior.
