A Friday Night Out With College Pals At A Local Cabaret Results In Drinking Issues And Alcohol Poisoning Symptoms
When Lois was in high school, she had obtained a reputation as a studious individual who rarely, if ever, drank with her peers. She seemed single-minded about excelling academically so that she would be able to go after a career that she not only benefited from but one that also gave her a degree of financial security.
After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a distinguished program in philosophy. Her logic for this decision was that this area of study would be good training for law school and would not be indistinguishable from the preponderance of law school applicants who pick political science as their undergraduate major.
Lois was the kind of person who worked attentively to finish what she started and then would take a breather when she could. As it turns out, nevertheless, a large number of the things she did between school sessions or during her summer vacations were unrelated to drinking. Clearly, Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were completed and feeling proud of the fact that she had done extremely well on her finals, nonetheless, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides school work for a change.
So Lois and several of her friends from school went to a local pub where they had a few mixed drinks. As the evening moved forward, Lois and her pals continued to drink. In actual fact, she was having such a splendid time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.
After drinking around thirty-five minutes when Lois began to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, nevertheless, her classmates promptly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency services number, and ask for emergency assistance because they believed that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Lois was attentive to the fact that she had dodged a bullet and almost died due to an alcohol overdose and, consequently, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat disheartened knowing that she had almost passed away the night before. Her Mother and Father were aware how hard she studied in graduate school and how little she let herself experience a social life. Nonetheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to stay away from irresponsible and hazardous drinking.
Consequently, they suggested that in the future, whenever a drinking occasion arises, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was of the same opinion and assured her friends and her Mother and Father that she would never ever drink in an excessive and abusive manner. In Lois's own words, "I never thought that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local college newspaper. I now realize that abusive and excessive drinking is not my style. I assert that this will never happen again."
Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also had a lot of common sense. Stated more precisely, she quickly comprehended that she had made an error and decided that she would never make the same error in judgment again. In point of fact, she now grasped the fact that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this kind of abusive and irresponsible drinking can end in a fatality.
